The mission of Dive Scientific is to develop its open software platform to aid the scientific diving community in collection of dive logs and associated activities data for the purposes of statistical analysis, education, research, and the advancement of standards for safe scientific diving practices, certifications and operations.

The journey began in 2004, when Derek Smith and Alex Zonin began working on a dive logging platform for the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach (CA). Based on its success the American Academy of Underwater Sciences decided to offer its organization members to participate.

Currently, as of July 2023, 163 organizations in the fields of scientific research, education, and nature conservation help making our mission a success, having logged close to 1 million dives.
